Container Skyscraper
First Prize – Superskyscrapers International Competition
GA's winning entry to the international Superskyscrapers competition proposed a 100-metre, 32-storey housing tower for Dharavi assembled from shipping containers – three per apartment – carried on a monocoque steel skin with portal frames every eight storeys.
Staggered floor plates create cantilevered corridors lined with recycled terracotta jalis made by Dharavi's own potters; solar panels face west, micro wind turbines east. Affordable housing, designed with the same precision GA gives a five-star lobby.
